Watchlist Pro on a Samsung TV: What Works and What Does Not
Short answer: not on the TV itself, but there is a way to get Watchlist Pro onto a Samsung screen.
Why the app will not install on a Samsung TV
Samsung smart TVs do not run Android. They run Tizen, Samsung's own operating system, and Tizen cannot install Android apps. This is not a Watchlist Pro limitation and no APK, downloader or workaround changes it — the app simply has no Tizen build, and neither do most Android TV apps.
Samsung phones and tablets are a different story. Those run Android and the mobile build installs on them normally. If you have a Galaxy phone, follow the standard install guide — nothing special is required.
Getting Watchlist Pro onto a Samsung TV anyway
Add an Android device to the TV and run the app there instead. Any of these work:
- An Android TV Box plugged into an HDMI port. The most reliable option, and the box handles the decoding rather than the TV.
- A TV Stick running Android. Cheaper and smaller; make sure it is Android based.
- Casting from a Galaxy phone. Install the mobile build on the phone and cast to the TV. Fine for occasional viewing, but it ties up your phone and quality depends on your Wi-Fi.
Whichever you pick, the requirement is Android 4.2 or newer for the TV build.
Before you buy a box
Two things people get caught by:
- Some cheap boxes ship with a heavily modified Android build and no Play Store, which makes sideloading harder. A box that advertises certified Android TV avoids this.
- Watchlist Pro plays files from a cloud you connect, up to 4K. A box with weak hardware will stutter on high-bitrate files no matter how good your internet is.
Once the box is set up, the install is the ordinary TV install using the Downloader code, and your subscription works across your devices — you do not need a separate recharge code for the box.
